[SOCIAL] Hay Ride

Event Date: February 27, 2009
Social Chair: Jake Pfieffer

If you ever confused Deltasig's for city-slickers, you must have never been to our western Hay Ride. The Hay Ride is a Deltasig tradition that dates back to the beginnings of our chapter. Every semester the active membership and pledges enjoy a horsedrawn wagon ride into the serene Arizona desert for a laid back night around a blazing fire. Actives and pledges spend their time enjoying music, dancing, light refreshments, laughes and old stories as well as the ever popular lasso contest. The Hay Ride never fails in providing enough stories for a few weeks to come.

[FUNdraising] Costume Dodgeball Tournament

Event Date: February 24, 2009
Fundraising Chair: Caitlin Erickson

Deltasigs definately know how to put the "fun" in fundraising. The Costume Dodgeball Tournament not only provided the active member with a fun chance to display their creativity and athletic skill, but also raised a sizable amount of capital for use in our professional, community service and social programming. Delta Sigma Pi's dues are minimal and therefore fundraising efforts are required in order to support the impressive variety of programs the organization provides its members. However, we always find ways to raise the capital necessary in a way that is fun and effective.

The event was covered by CornkiteNewswatch, a small station based out of the ASU Journalism school. Watch the story below:

[COMMUNITY] Habitat for Humanity

Event Date: February 21st 2009
Vice President of Community Service: Alexa Patterson

The recent economic crisis is plunging already strained families into ever worsening circumstances. With 3 in every 100 Arizona homes facing foreclosure and credit at an all-time low, there seems to be little hope for those families facing disaster.
While most students slept through their Saturday morning almost 20 Delta Sigma Pi members were up working hard to help mitigate the recent financial crisis's effects. Brothers built a home for a small family from the ground up, enjoying not only a fun bonding experience but the opportunity to serve the community which supports our Business education.

[SOCIAL] Spaghetti Dinner

Event Date: February 20th 2009
Vice President of Pledge Education: Lisa Atkinson

Every semester the Delta Sigma Pi chapter hosts their pledges in this laid back family style traditional italian dinner. Over 45 guests enjoyed tasty pasta and salad dishes at this backyard event cooked up by the Delta Sigma Pi membership.
We recognize that the Italians definately had it right! Spaghetti is a great way to get a family together. So while the Spaghetti is definately the highlight of this fun evening, the true purpose of this gathering is to further the lifelong bonds created throughout membership in the chapter. What a better way to do just that then over a bowl of fresh pasta?

[PROFESSIONAL] Recruiter Workshop

Event Date: February 12th 2009
Vice President of Professional Events: Arnav Guleria

Delta Sigma Pi had the opportunity to learn from a former Black & Decker marketing manager and JPMorganChase recruiter how to better their resumes and create a competitive advantage in interviews. Jyll Harthun, an ASU graduate who has locked in over 5 years of professional experience, went over objective ways to dazzle a recruiter with a resume and interview that makes you jump off the page.
For example, Harthun emphasized highlighting the results of one’s efforts in a company.
“Saying you worked as a sales rep is great, but if you can tell me you were top salesperson 4 months in a row and outperformed the group by 18% then I’m going to be thoroughly impressed” said Harthun to a group of 20 Delta Sigma Pi members and pledges.
Also delineated were the merits of using narrative in an interview as opposed to listing out abstract points.
Pledges and actives had a lot to learn from this experience; in this economy more than ever a solid resume and impressive interview shows that you care about your presentation to the professional community. With the help of Jyll Harthun and the Business Career Center, Delta Sigma Pi members will be able to better communicate their professional advantages.
